Paedodontics (Children Dental Health)

Paedodontics (Children’s Dental Health)

Paedodontics is a dental speciality that deals with the care of children’s teeth. At Serenity Dental, we strongly focus on preventative care by equipping you and your child with the knowledge of proper dental hygiene and maintenance techniques. We want to ensure your child has a positive dental experience that can make them look forward to returning every six months for their check-up.

When should my child have their first dental visit?

We recommend bringing your child in at around 2 years of age. Regular oral exams help with early detection which can prevent the need for future treatments and head off minor issues before they become more significant. We welcome you with all of your family, even the little ones!

Child's first dental visit

What we look out for at a child's first visit:

  • Risk assessment for tooth decay
  • Airway assessment (If your child snores, has a habit of mouth breathing or grinding their teeth)
  • Tooth development and alignment
  • Tooth eruption and exfoliation sequence

Why is it important for a child to have a dental visit?

Some specific tasks by a children’s dentist include Oral exams, counselling on nutrition and dietary habits, discouragement of habits like thumb and finger sucking using different methods, and space management after the premature loss of a primary tooth.

Common treatment for children’s dental care:

  • Dental Fillings
  • Stainless steel crowns
  • X-rays
  • Fissure sealants
  • Early intervention orthodontics
